BJP demands report on LeT infiltration, attacks PM Friday, July 21 2006 17:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The main Opposition BJP today (July 21, 2006) demanded that the government come out with a statement on the disclosure about possible Lashkar-e-Toiba infiltration in the Air Force and asked it to change and overhaul its mindset on security.
Seeking to put the government on the backfoot, it said if the terror attacks in Varanasi, Mumbai and Delhi was not a wake up call, this disclosure that the country's last bastion
to protect national security has been infiltrated should not only wake up but shake up the government.
"We expect the government to reassure the country that it is doing the needful and give a detailed statement in this regard," BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley told reporters
here.
Training guns at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said," The people of the country will not accept reasons and excuses for failure" on security issues and asked the to take stern measures rather than complaining that the country was inadequately prepared to handle terrorism."
"I don't think the Prime Minister should be in a mould and merely complain that India is inadequately prepared to handle terrorism. We have been one of the prime targets of
terror. The people of this country will not expect reasons and excuses for failure," Jaitley said.
"The report by the National Security Advisor (NSA) that LeT cadres could have infiltrated into the armed forces only shows the aggressive mould the terrorist outfits have gone into," Jaitley said.
"Government has to change its attitude. We expect the government to change and overhaul its mindset and realise the magnitude of the problem," he added.
He also called for strengthening of intelligence and security networks, change in political and diplomatic initiatives and demanded an aggressive legal framework to
tackle terrorism effectively.
