India to unveil new telecom policy

New Delhi: A new national telecom policy will be unveiled soon to comprehensively cover various aspects of the industry - from spectrum allocation to deregulation, the Lok Sabha was informed Wednesday.

Detailed consultations with the stakeholders in formulating the new policy has commenced, said Shakeel Ahmad, minister of state for communications and IT, in a written reply to the lower house.

Other areas that will be covered by the policy include access charges, research and development, equipment manufacturing, simplification of various rules, value-added services and quality, he said.

"Various stakeholders have already given their comments to prepare the draft."
