The body of a 30-year-old woman employee of a call centre here was found with multiple stab wounds on the Bangalore-Mangalore national highway Wednesday, police said.
Tanya Banerjee, who hails from Howrah in West Bengal, left her office - Aviva Customer Operations Services Ltd. near Hassan, about 200 km from here - late Tuesday after her duty ended around 9.30 p.m.
"We have identified the body from her office ID card, which was found hanging on the neck. It was found abandoned by some village folks at Maranahalli, about 80 km from Hassan. She was wearing a red T-shirt and black pants," Hassan police superintendent Panduranga H. Rane told IANS on phone.
"A murder case has been registered under sections 302 and 201 IPC. The body has been sent for post-mortem. There were at least 20 stab wounds on her body, mainly in the abdomen area.
"Preliminary investigation indicates the murder took place at some other place as there was no tell-tale signs of blood marks or any weapon near the body," Rane said.
The Hassan police have informed the company as well as Tanya's father, who lives in Howrah.
