CBI refutes allegations of tampering in Telgi case Thursday, July 27 2006 12:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Refuting allegations of tampering, CBI told the Bombay high court yesterday (July 26, 2006) that it was ready to produce before it all the 14 Compact Discs (CDs) containing intercepted telephonic talks between prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi and others.
The statement was made by CBI counsel Raja Thakre as in the special court at Pune yesterday some accused had objected to the court opening the sealed envelope which mentioned eight CDs and not 14 CDs claimed by CBI earlier. The Pune court had
sought clarification from the high court on the issue.
Thakre told justice R S Mohite that the agency was ready to produce all the 14 CDs containing the entire intercepted conversations either in the high court or special court.
He also said that only eight CDs were produced because CBI had asked central forensic laboratory in Delhi to give only those portions of conversations which were relevant to
the Pune case concerning Telgi.
Moreover, he said, the sealed cover was sent by forensic lab to CBI on the instructions of Karnataka high court and there was no question of CBI tampering with the intercepted
talks.
Justice R S Mohite then suggested to the CBI counsel to produce all the 14 CDs in their possession if no prejudice would be caused to anyone.
The high court deferred the matter to August 1 as CBI counsel said he would seek instructions from CBI higerups in Delhi.
Some accused in Pune had yesterday objected to the court opening the sealed cover which mentioned eight CDs saying that the intercepted talks might have been tampered with.
