Friday, July 28 2006 11:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Government yesterday (July 27, 2006) said it has issued 190 show cause notices to different television channels since 2004 for violation of programme and advertising code.

Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that the Government had set up monitoring committees at state and district levels to check violations by TV channels.

Speaking about the action taken against the channels found violating the codes, he said 13 channels had been warned and asked to run a scroll admitting their mistake while 23 channels were only issued a warning.

On the other hand, one channel was pulled off the air while advisory letters had been issued to two. In total, action had been taken against 39 channels.
