3 youths interrogated for security lapse at PMO Friday, July 28 2006 12:09 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Three youths who drove past the first barrier at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's official residence here were interrogated by the police Thursday night from the point of view of a security breach.
"The three people were questioned throughout the night at the Chanakyapuri police station and the interrogation will continue for four-five hours more," said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Aggarwal today (July 28, 2006).
No case has been registered against the three, as neither the Prime minister's Office (PMO) nor the Special Protection Group (SPG) has filed an official complaint.
The trio, Yogita Khatwani, Veena Chaudhary and Imran, found themselves in the full glare of TV cameras as the media had assembled at 7 Race Course Road for a post-cabinet briefing late yesterday.
Yogita and Veena said they were airhostesses of Air Sahara and belonged to Jaipur. They thought they would take a chance to meet the Prime Minister.
Neeta Raina, spokesperson of Air Sahara, confirmed that Yogita was an airhostess with the airline but had been grounded around a month and a half ago. She added that the airline would check the details of Veena as well.
Raina said Air Sahara could take further action against Yogita, while Aggarwal said the antecedents of both the women in Jaipur would also be checked out thoroughly.
Yogita had said Thursday that the trio were surprised they were not asked to produce any identification at the first gate, where there is a guardroom and people are thoroughly checked for identity and appointment details.
The three drove for about 100 yards in the tree-lined complex before being stopped at the second barrier, where there is a reception manned by the SPG that guards the prime minister.
The three were also taken for medical examination at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) yesterday(July 27, 2006) night.
