Make letters introducing Andaleeb public: Natwar
Friday, August 4 2006 11:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Denying he had sought any favour for businessman Andaleeb Sehgal, former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh wants the letters purportedly written by him introducing his son's friend to the Iraqi regime to be made public.

While the senior Congress leader refused to meet journalists who thronged his residence shortly after the Pathak Inquiry Authority report indicted him in the Iraqi oil-for-food scam, his counsel Pradip Kumar said Singh has not sought any favour for Sehgal.

"We are demanding that these letters should be made public because it will make it clear that Natwar has not demanded favour for Andaleeb Seghal. The letter has only one sentence which refers to Andaleeb," he told reporters here.

Kumar said the probe panel has not seen the original letters and they have photocopies of it in their possession.

He said Singh doubts the veracity of the letters which has three different dates but the same content.

"This letter, which was shown by the panel to Natwar also, has four spelling mistakes. Natwar has told the Commission that his English is not that bad to make such mistakes," the counsel said.

"Singh writes such letters everyday introducing people," he said.
