Volcker report: Jagat trains gun at Finance Minister
Saturday, August 5 2006 13:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Jagat Singh, son of beleagured Congress leader Natwar Singh, yesterday (Aug 4, 2006) night vowed to take on the Enforcement Directorate in courts accusing it of defaming him in Iraqi oil-for-food scam and charged the Directorate was acting at the dictates of Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

"You will soon find the ED in the Patiala courts. They have done damage to my reputation by planting news against me in the media. I am not going to take this lying down," Jagat who was named along with Natwar and Congress as non-contractual beneficiaries in the Volcker report, told reporters here.

Attacking Chidamabaram, Jagat alleged the Finance Minister had given a 'specific brief' to the ED regarding how to go about the investigations regarding the scam.

Asked what he proposes to do against Chidamabaram, the junior Singh said "He is the Goliath and me the David. I am leaving that to his conscience. He knows what he does."

Jagat claimed the Pathak Inquiry Authority report had 'absolved' them of the charge of deriving any financial benefits from the scam.

"The Volcker panel says we have gained money. But after nine months of investigation, the Indian panel says we did not benefit financially", he said.
