Fazl-ur-Rehman in police custody till August 17
Tuesday, August 8 2006 11:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: A Delhi Court yesterday (Aug 7,2006) gave ten days police custody to Fazl-ur-Rahman, a key aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who was arrested on Sunday in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Wanted in more than 30 cases, including extortion and blackmail, a Special Branch team arrested Rehman between Sanoli and Gorakhpur on Sunday, Delhi Police Commissioner, Dr K K Paul said.

"Many closed files against Rehman would have to be re-opened," he added.

Attempts to capture Rehman had proved futile for the last nine years. He moved between Dubai and Nepal, Paul said.

Among the important cases with which he was connected were an extortion case in Ahmedabad, the kidnapping of a Kanpur business tycoon and making extortion calls to several Bollywood personalities like actress Shilpa Shetty.
