New Delhi:
Security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport as well as the domestic airport here was beefed up today (Aug 10, 2006) following the foiling of a terrorist plot in London to bring down a number of aircraft through mid-air explosions.
"For the time being we have completely banned visitors from coming inside the airport's terminal building," said Vartul Singh, assistant commandant of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that is in charge of security at the airport.
Quick reaction commando units are on alert and bomb disposal and dog squads have been pressed into service.
Singh said anti-hijacking measures have also been put in place.
He said passenger profiling has been increased.
"We have a list of passengers, suspected terrorists and criminals, and we are keeping an eye on these people," he said.
