Natwar disallowed to make statement in Rajya Sabha Friday, August 11 2006 15:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Rajya Sabha was plunged into chaos Friday after former external affairs minister K. Natwar Singh was disallowed to make a personal statement on a probe into his involvement in Iraq's Oil-for-Food scam, forcing adjournment of the house till 2 p.m.
As Natwar Singh got up to speak during zero hour Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan told him that he would be allowed to do so only after a statement he had submitted to Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on Thursday had been considered.
Natwar Singh submitted the statement under Rule 241.
"Please take it up with the chairman," Khan repeatedly told Natwar Singh even as opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members raised their voice in the former minister's favour.
As BJP and other opposition members advanced towards the speaker's podium, Khan adjourned the house till 2 p.m.
