ULFA to 'respect' Centre's decision on operations
Saturday, August 19 2006 11:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Guwahati: The banned ULFA yesterday (Aug 18, 2006) said that it would 'respect' the Centre's decision to suspend army operation in Assam.

In a mail to the local media, ULFA Chairman Aravinda Rajkhowa said, "He respects the government decision and waiting for their (government) initiative in implementing the assurance given to the PCG which would pave the way for dialogue".

Without mentioning the word ceasefire, he said, "The people wanted peace and thus the reciprocal gesture. Stating that there was no need for any confusion in the minds of the people", Rajkhowa hoped that the Centre would also consider release of the top five ULFA leaders to pave the way for talks."
