CID launches massive hunt for suspected ISI linkmen Monday, August 21 2006 11:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
The Criminal Investigation Department yesterday (Aug 20, 2006) launched a massive manhunt for the suspected ISI linkmen at Hingalganj and its adjacent areas in North24-Parganas district along the Indo-Bangla border.
Police sources said that CID sleuths were hopeful of tracking down the culprits who worked in connivance with the two Pakistani terrorists arrested from the area on August 14.
The sleuths talked to villagers and people around all suspected hideouts in the area to find clues about the whereabouts of the suspected linkmen.
The CID team had been visiting Hingalganj and its adjacent area for the last couple of days to investigate the role of some linkmen, two touts and a woman who had helped the
two terrorists to infiltrate Indian territory.
The two terrorists, who had been trained in the use of arms in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, had revealed some 'vital information' which would aid the investigation, they said.
The police said that a number of e-mail IDs of the duo were being probed to give an idea about their real motives. The boatman who had ferried the two by boat on the Icchamati
river in the district from where they were caught on August 14 by the BSF was also being looked into.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorist Squad of the Mumbai Police, who had also interrogated the two Pakistani terrorists, might seek transit remand for them to ascertain if
they had any link with the July 11 blasts in local trains there.
