Israel to appoint panel to investigate Lebanon war Monday, August 21 2006 11:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jerusalem:
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert yesterday (Aug 20, 2006) said that a panel would be constituted to look into the "systemic failures" in decision making during the course of the war in Lebanon.
Olmert told his ministers at a weekly cabinet meeting that he would come up with a proposal for a state commission of inquiry into the failures of the war within a few days in consultation with Attorney General Menachem Mazuz.
He said that he would ask the cabinet to approve the panel's formation in the coming days.
It is being believed that the panel would look into systemic failures and not put responsibility on individuals involved in decision making during the course of the war.
