TRS to intensify movement for separate Telangana
Wednesday, August 23 2006 12:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Hyderabad: After quitting the UPA Government, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is all set to intensify the movement for separate state even as the ruling Congress made light of the development.

The TRS, which has five MPs and 26 MLAs, would organize rallies and demonstrations across Telangana region from today (Aug 23, 2006)to highlight its demand, party sources said.

TRS supremo and Union Minister K Chandrasekhar and his deputy A Narendra, who resigned from the union cabinet to protest against delay in creation of Telangana state, would launch fast-unto-death at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, the sources said.

Simultaneously, the party workers would organise hunger strikes and rallies in Telangana districts while the MLA's are gearing up to stall the proceedings in Assembly today

"We will soon convene a meeting of party leaders and Telangana protagonists to chalk out the agitational programme. We will carry forward the movement and will not rest till we achieve the goal," the TRS Flood leader in the Assembly K Vijayarama Rao said.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, however, made light of the development and said the resignation of TRS Ministers would not have any impact on the propsects of Congress or the development of the state.

"Probably, they (TRS) must have thought that they can take their agenda forward with much more vigour by resigning from the cabinet. I do not think this will have any impact on the development of the state or the prospects of the Congress," Reddy said.
