Bajrang Dal to continue protests against Brinda Karat Tuesday, August 29 2006 17:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Raipur:
Hardline Hindu group Bajrang Dal said today (Aug 29,2006) that it would not allow Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat to hold meetings in Chhattisgarh as she was an agent of Maoist ultras.
"Karat is an agent of Maoist ultras and also responsible for bringing a slur on yoga guru Baba Ramdev by levelling baseless charges. We will not allow her to hold meetings in Chhattisgarh," Bajrang Dal leader Ghanshyam Chaudhary said.
The statement came a day after 50 Bajrang Dal activists armed with sticks stormed into a public meeting being addressed by Karat here late Monday and seriously injured dozens of CPI-M cadres in police presence.
Though Karat was escorted to safety by her party colleagues, Bajrang Dal workers burnt the CPI-M party flag, set on fire a book stall showcasing Karat's books and ransacked the meeting site.
Karat described the incident as a terror act of saffron goons, backed by state BJP's Government's police.
Police have made no arrest so far in connection with Monday's violence.
"Some written complaints against Dal activists have been lodged by left party cadres who had been physically assaulted, but arrests are very unlikely," Superintendent of Police G.S. Bamra told sources.
