July 11 blasts suspects may undergo scientific tests
Tuesday, August 29 2006 11:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: "In a last ditch attempt to ascertain whether the nine suspects held so far in July 11 serial bomb blasts actually participated in the blasts, police is planning to make them undergo scientific tests," sources said.

The Anti Terrorism Squad today (Aug 29, 2006) informed a local court that it intends to subject one of the blasts suspects, Kamal Ahmed (32), to scientific tests.

Kamal, who was among the first three persons arrested by ATS in the blasts case, was booked afresh in the Khar local train blasts case and sent to police custody today.

While ATS chief, K P Raghuvanshi said that only one person will be subjected to the tests, sources said that eventually, the squad may subject all nine suspects to these tests to derive truth in the case.

ATS has said that the suspects were arrested following evidence that these men were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba modules, but maintained that it had no evidence to prove that the arrested have direct or indirect involvement in the blasts.

"These men are trained abroad to undertake terrorist acts in Mumbai and around. But no body is sure if they perpetrated the crime," ATS officials have said.

"Both the lie-detector and brain-mapping tests are treated admissible evidence in court and provide definite clue about the information withheld by the person undergoing the test," sources said.
