Sonia likely to visit flood-hit Barmer district

Barmer (Rajasthan): Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to visit later this week the flood-affected villages of Barmer district, where 103 people have lost their lives in the recent monsoon fury, party sources said today (Aug 29, 2006).

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President B D Kalla is in Barmer's Bayut tehsil to take stock of the situation in the aftermath of flood in the desert district, they said.

PCC will make an itinerary of Gandhi's proposed visit and send it to the party high command for approval, the sources said.

Hundreds of people have been left homeless in Barmer, one of the worst flood-hit among 12 districts, some of them receving highest rainfall in their recent history.
