After the measure on elite Government institutions, the Government now proposes to bring a new Bill providing for reservation of seats for backward caste students in unaided elite educational institutions.
"Another act will come in due course. You will know," HRD Minister Arjun Singh told reporters.
He was asked about the fate of the Bill to provide for reservation in unaided institutions, now that the Bill for providing reservation in aided institutions has been referred to the Standing Committee.
Observing that the new Bill for reservation in unaided institutions would come, Singh said, "There are certain thingswhich are done and that was the consensus of the Cabinet.
Therefore it was decided like that."
On the last date of the Monsoon session of Parliament on August 25, government tabled the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Bill 2006, providing
for 27 per cent reservation of seats for OBCs including those belonging to the 'creamy layer' in elite Central and aided institutions like the IITs and IIMs.
The Bill has been referred to the departmentally-related Standing Committee.
