Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has addressed all issues raised by the scientifc community with regard to the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar said yesterday (Aug 30, 2006).
"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has properly addressed all concerns raised by the scientists on the issue of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal and I can not say anything more than that," he told reporters here after the graduation function of the Dr Raja Ramanna Centre for Advancement of Technology, a Bhabha Atomic Research Centre facility pioneering in laser technology.
He informed that the Centre has given approval in principle to set up two nuclear power units of 700 mw each at Kakrapar and Rawatbhata.
Referring to the plan of setting up a nuclear power plant in Madhya Pradesh, he said that site selection committee has visited some of the sites but it has not yet zeroed on any single place for the purpose.
Asked about growing terrorist attacks and measures taken by the Department of Atomic Energy in this regard, he said security has been beefed up at all nuclear installations following escalation in terrorist activities.
On issue of reservation in institutes of higher learning, Kakodkar said that besides nurturing excellence, the country also has to fulfill its social obligations.
Earlier, Kakodkar along with the former advisor to Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Professor M G K Menon addressed the graduation function and distributed certificates to the successful candidates.
