The situation is under control in Malegaon today (Sept 9, 2006) after multiple blasts, that has claimed 38 lives and left 189 injured, but the ill-equipped hospitals were struggling to cope with rush of patients with limited means.
A grim atmosphere prevailed a day after three blasts rocked the town and most of the shops were closed even as the curfew has been lifted this morning.
The blast victims were being treated at three hospitals two municipal and one private.
At the municipal hospitals Wadia Hospital and Satrana Road Hospital authorities had to request the victims' relatives to procure medicines on their own as the hospitals were facing shortage.
At the private Farhan Hospital, where 41 persons were undergoing treatment, the local physicians had to chip in with medicines and other necessary items.
Farhan Hospital authorities complained that they have not got any help from the government to coping with the situation.
The hospital has sent seventeen patients, who were in a critical condition, to Dhule municipal hospital.
As regards the blood supply, authorities said that currently they have enough blood bottles.
Doctors treating the injured told sources the most of the injuries resulted from flying metal splinters packed in the explosive devices.
Rizwan Ansari, living opposite Masjid-Kabrastan, site of one of the blasts, told PTI that the Friday prayer had got just over when the explosions occurred.
"The prayers started a little late, as the power went off inside the Masjid and mikes
could not be used. It started at about 1.40 pm," he said.
