Nepal: 33 people killed in landslides and floods

Kathmandu: At least 33 people have been killed and 12 others have gone missing after floods and landslides struck different parts of Nepal over the past two weeks, officials said today (Sept 11, 2006).

The flood and mudslides also swept away at least 30 houses and damaged infrastructure causing losses worth millions of rupees.

While 12 people were killed in western and central Nepal, nine people were kiled in Mustang, seven in Banke, six in Tanahu, four in Bardiya, three in Nawalparasi and Chitwan, and one in Darchula districts due to the natural calamity.

"Eight people from Achham district and one from Darchula are reported missing after the heavy downpour," the officials said.
