JDS-BJP Govt is not behind Telgi CD's leak: Prakash Tuesday, September 12 2006 17:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
Emphatically rejecting the opposition Congress charge, JDS-BJP Government in Karnataka today (Sept 12, 2006)asserted that it had no involvement in the release of CDs to media over certain alleged revealations made by fake stamp paper scam prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi when he was subjected to narco analysis test here.
"The Government is also baffled over the leakage of information and how CDs made way into the offices of TVchannels and the Press", Home Minister M P Prakash told
reporters after a high level meeting he held with top officials of his department at which the issue came for discussion.
The State Government has already handed over all the documents including CDs to CBI, which had been investigating the case, he said and hoped that the Central Investigating
agency would unravel the truth behind the CDs' release.
"May be internal squabbles in a political party might have led to the leakage", he susepcted, but declined to name the politial outfit that he had in mind.
Prakash also refused to join issue with Telgi, who claimed that the CDs telecast by TV channels were 'fabricated' and he had not dropped the names of any politicians during the
narco analysis test conducted on him here during December 2003.
Ruling out the state going in for an alternative probe into the CDs leak, he however said though law permits, the government will not exercise its powers.
"Let CBI complete its probe. I will not question its credibility", he remarked.
The opposition Congress had charged that the Coalition Government had a hand in release of CDs to counter the Rs 150 crore bribery charges made against the Chief Minister.
Telgi in a letter to his advocate M T Nanaiah had claimed that the CDs were 'fabricated' and he was aware of the contents of revealations made by him during the narco analysis
test.
