'Peace process, trade to figure in PM-Prez talks' Friday, September 15 2006 11:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
The Indo-Pak peace process and trade will come up at the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf likely to be held on Friday on the margin of NAM summit in Havana, Pakistan Foreign Office said yesterday (Sept 14,2006) night.
The meeting between the two leaders is likely to be held on Friday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam told sources here.
"When the two leaders meet, they will be certainly discussing the peace process. They will discuss the trade," she told sources.
"As you have seen, both sides insisted that the peace process was not frozen and whatever confidence-building measures are being taken they were on course," Aslam said.
Replying to a question, she said "What exactly they talk about, what agreement they reach that would be prejudging the outcome".
Singh has said that he would take up the issue of terrorism emanating from the territory of Pakistan against India and said incidents like Mumbai train blasts come in the
way carrying forward the peace process.
Ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to Brasilia and Havana, India had said that resumption of stalled Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary-level talks with Pakistan depended on a 'satisfactory' outcome of the meeting Singh and Musharraf.
Despite a strong constituency in India against talks with resumption Pakistan in the wake of July 11 Mumbai blasts, the Prime Minister has received the backing of his key allies the Left parties in pushing ahead with the bilateral dialogue.
Officials of India and Pakistan are working outmodalities and timing of the meeting.
Earlier, Singh and Musharraf were expected to meet on Saturday.
