SC takes exemption to notifications on mixed land use
Monday, September 18 2006 16:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today (Sept 18,2006) took strong exception against the Centre and Delhi Government for issuing notifications for allowing commercial activities in residential areas of the capital, saying it was causing utter confusion and chaos for the citizens.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal was particularly anguished over the Delhi government's September 15 notification permitting trading activities on 2,204 roads.

The bench said it was evident that the intention was to override the August 20 order of the court as it was very clear that the sealing would continue from September 16 but the government came out with a notification a day before it.

The court fixed September 25 to hear the matter relating to the sealing drive.

Though the matter was not listed for hearing today, an application was mentioned by senior Advocate Mukul Rastogi, who appeared for some traders whose establishments were sealed in the ongoing MCD drive against illegal commercial activities in residential areas.
