Govt has adopted pro-America stance: Natwar Singh Wednesday, September 20 2006 12:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bharatpur (Rajasthan):
Former external affairs minister Natwar Singh yesterday (Sept 19,2006) attacked the UPA government, saying it had adopted a pro-America stance that was guiding foreign policy in the wrong direction.
Addressing a public meeting in Tuhia village near here, Singh alleged the Central government was conspiring against his son Jagat and him even though the Pathak Inquiry Authority's report on Iraq's oil-for-food scam had not clarified much about their alleged involvement in the matter.
Referring to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, he said she become suspicious about him because she was under the influence of some people in the party.
"I am waiting for the day when I will give a correct reply to her. I will organise a 'kisan rally' in Delhi soon," said Singh, who was suspended from the Congress last month," he said.
"During the rally I will also solve some mysteries," he said without giving details.
"I have served the Congress for two decades and I am not pleased with what this party is doing with me," he said. "Main Lohagarh ka Jat hoon jo tut sakta hai, likin jhuk nahien sakta (I am a Jat from Lohagarh who can be broken but cannot be bent)." He also alleged that the Centre and the Congress party are responsible for all the problems of farmers.
Pointing to the history of the Congress, he said Chaudhary Charan Singh, V P Singh and Chandrashekhar were all unnecessarily suspended from the party and went on to become prime ministers.
