Myanmar warns against possible terrorist attacks

Yangon: The Myanmar authorities warned the people today (Sept 20,2006) to raise security awareness against possible terrorist attacks by anti-government organisations in exile and insurgents.

Through official media, the authorities also warned against possible mass demonstration and protest incited by these organisations.

The authorities charged members of the Kayin National Union (KNU), the largest anti-government armed group in Myanmar, with plotting to continue their armed attacks against the government under a resolution adopted at the Lawkheelar Camp on the Myanmar-Thai border Monday.

A KNU brigade has sent bombers into the interior part of Toungoo-Nyaunglebin in Bago division to carry out destruction of railroads, towns and villages, the authorities alleged.

Besides, the authorities accused the National Council of the Union of Burma (NCUB) of setting up a people's uprising central committee to lead and create unrest in the country at a time when Myanmar's affairs are being formally placed in the agenda of the UN Security Council (UNSC) at the instance of the US.

The authorities vowed to crush those who pose a threat to the stability and community peace in Myanmar.
