BJP says Sonia's statements lowering forces' morale Monday, September 25 2006 11:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Dehra Dun:
The BJP yesterday (Sept 24, 2006) accused Congress President Sonia Gandhi of trying to lower morale of security forces fighting terror by repeatedly stating that minorities should not be targeted.
Commenting on the two-day conclave of Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states in Nainital, BJP spokesman Ravishanker Prasad told reporters here that Gandhi had repeated stated there that minorities should not be targeted.
"Such statements are tying the hands of our security forces. This is very alarming and will definitely lower the morale of forces which are fighting terrorists in extremely tough conditions," he said.
Prasad pointed out that despite several terror attacks, stringent laws like POTA were repealed following a sytematic campaign.
He said it was surprising that both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Gandhi had not uttered a word on rising prices of essential commodities at the conclave.
Prasad flayed the Congress leadership for not announcing a special package for Uttaranchal which, he said, was mired in debt.
The BJP leader accused the Uttaranchal government of misusing official machinery for the the Nainital conclave.
