Air Marshal Gokhale is new vice chief of IAF
New Delhi : Air Marshal Nilkanth Gokhale, a reputed fighter pilot, today took over as the new vice chief of the Indian Air Force.
Gokhale, who saw action during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, succeeds Air Marshal Ajit Bhavnani, who retired after 40 years of distinguished service.
With over 3,500 hours on a variety of fighter and trainer aircraft, Gokhale is one of the four officers in contention to be the next chief of the IAF. As Assistant Chief of Air Staff, Gokhale played a key role during operation Parakaram.
In other appointments to key IAF posts, Air Marshal G S Chaudhary has taken over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Nagpur-based Training Command and Air Marshal P V Naik as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command in Allahabad.
