NC accuses PDP of conspiring to destroy identity
Monday, November 13, 2006 02:17 [IST] : Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir's main opposition party National Conference today accused PDP, a major partner of the state's coalition Government, of hatching a 'conspiracy' to destroy the Kashmiri identity. Addressing the supporters of the party here, Provincial President of the party and MLA Mehboob Beg accused the government of India of launching constant onslaught on Kashmiriyat and cautioned the people against rooting out kashmiriyat the identity of Kashmir saying consparicies are being hatched at the highest institutions.
"Conspiracies are being hatched at the highest levels to uproot Kashmiriyat and give practical shape to (former Chief Minister and PDP leader) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's self-rule by leasing out land at Gulmarg to non-state subjects," Beg charged. He alleged that whatever the Mufti could not do in the past was being completed now. Defending the party's demand for restoration of greater autonomy in the state, he said Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf had told NC chief Omar Abdullah during the latter's visit to that country that Sayeed's self-rule formula was similar to that of NC's demand for greater autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir.
