Dhaka: A delegation of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) is in India for its periodic political dialogue with Indian Left parties, in which the current turmoil in Dhaka is expected to be discussed.

The team left Dhaka last Sunday at the invitation of the Communist Party of India (CPI), The Daily Star said.

CPB president Manjurul Ahsan Khan and presidium member Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed are to exchange views with leaders of CPI and the Communist Party of India-Marxist.

CPB is a constituent of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance.

Its cadres are actively participating in the current 'siege' of Dhaka and the protests against President Iajuddin Ahmed's 'caretaker government' for failing to fulfill the demand of the alliance to prove its neutrality for conducting the general elections due in January.

Dubbed "pro-Moscow" in the Cold War era, the CPB, an offshoot of the CPI in undivided India, has been an important part of the Left movement in Bangladesh.

The CPB, initially the Communist Party of Pakistan, was repeatedly banned by the martial law regimes in Pakistan.
