CVC recommends action against 133 officials
Sunday, November 19, 2006 12:55 [IST] : New Delhi: Taking a strong view of corruption and administrative lapses, the Central Vigilance Commission has recommended major penalty proceedings against 133 government officials in different cases across the country. Based on investigation reports submitted by the CBI and the Chief Vigilance Officer, the CVC last month recommended action against the officials, including 28 from the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and 11 officers from the Ministry of Health, official sources said. Apart from this, it recommended action against 10 officers from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), seven each from public sector banks and the Ministry of Coal, six from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, five each from the National Highway Authority of India, ONGC and National Open School and four officers each from the Ministry of Railways, MTNL, insurance companies, Central Coal Field Ltd and Ministry of Fertiliser, besides others, for different faults. The CVC advised launching of prosecution against 13 officers, including eight from Central Excise and Customs, one each from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Indian Council of Medical Research, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi government for different offences. In October, the CVC disposed of 419 cases referred to it for advice and the investigations by its CTE unit, resulting in recoveries to the tune of Rs 1.27 crore. |
