Islamabad: Briefing POK leaders on the outcome of the recent Foreign Secretary-level talks with India, Pakistan Foreign Secretary Riaz Muhammad Khan has reportedly said issues relating to militancy in Kashmir would not be part of the joint anti-terror mechanism set up by the two countries. Khan "told us that the Kashmir freedom movement was not part of the decisions taken during the recent Indo-Pak talks," Yousaf Nasim, convener of the POK Huriyat Conference was quoted as saying by a daily.
"The two countries agreed to share intelligence to counter terrorism," he told Daily Times. The briefing on Foreign Secretary-level talks was arranged by Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid M Kasuri here yesterday. It was attended by over 50 leaders from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, including the province's President Raja Zulqurnain and Prime Minister Attique Ahmad Khan. At the meeting some leaders from POK reportedly expressed their opposition to India and Pakistan's decision to form the joint mechanism. Kasuri, however, assured them that the mechanism had nothing to do with the Kashmiris struggle for the right to self-determination. "The participants of the meeting were informed that Pakistan gave importance to the freedom movement and also recognised the sacrifices of Kashmiri freedom fighters," Nasim said. "We got the impression that India is serious about discussing the Kashmir issue during the recent secretary-level talks," Nasim quoted the Foreign Secretary as saying. |
