Britain expresses outrage at West Bengal train blast

Kolkata:  Britain yesterday (Nov 23, 2006)expressed outrage at Monday's train bombing in West Bengal and reiterated its commitment to work jointly with India in 'blotting' out terrorism.

"I extend my condolences to the families of those who have died in the atrocious explosion in the northern part of the state," Britain's Trade, Investment and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian McCartney told reporters this evening after a meeting here with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

Wishing the speedy recovery of those injured in the blast, McCartney said, "We are committed to working with the Indian government in blotting out terrorism." Seven people were killed when a powerful explosion ripped through a compartment of a passenger train at Belakoba in Jalpaiguri district.
