Mumbai: India and China would work together for successful development outcome of Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations.
Commerce Minister Kamal Nath, along with his Chinese counterpart Bo Xilai, today issued a joint statement here, saying both the countries were willing to engage with other countries to ensure a successful conclusion to the Round.
"The outcome must expand trade opportunities for all, but it must also achieve development objectives and safeguard crucial developing country interests such as livelihood security which are the avowed objectives of the Round," the statement said.
Both the ministers pointed out there was a lot at stake for developing countries, especially so since this was a development round.
They observed that inflexible stances had led to the suspension of the talks in July 2006.
"Flexibility must be displayed before negotiations resume to ensure that success does not remain elusive," it said.
"Failure just cannot be countenanced," the statement said. |
