US says objectives in Iraq have not changed: Hashemi Wednesday, December 13, 2006 11:14 [IST]

Washington: As the United States said that its objectives
in Iraq
had not changed, Iraqi Vice-President Tariq al Hashemi expressed optimism that
there was no way but success, and while his country was at a difficult stage at
present, there was light 'in the corridor'.
At a meeting with Al-Hashemi at the White House yesterday, President George W
Bush assured the visiting Iraqi leader that American objectives had not
changed.
"Our objective is to help the Iraqi government deal with the extremists
and killers and support the vast majority of Iraqis who are reasonable people
who want peace. We want to help you. We want to help your government be
effective. We want your government to live up to its words and ideals,"
Bush said in a press conference with the Iraqi leader.
Appreciating Bush's commitment to success in Iraq and in taking home a 'positive
message' that Washington in revising the current strategy was looking for a balanced
and detailed analysis from Iraqi leaders, al Hashemi underscored the point that
there was no way but success in Iraq.
"We have no other option in Iraq but to achieve that success.
And with the cooperation of our friends. We will join forces to achieve that
success in the foreseeable future. There is a chance and I can assure you there
is a great and real chance to get out of this present dilemma. It is a hard time,But
there is a light in the corridor" al Hashemi said.
"There is a chance, but we need a goodwill and a strong determination; the
same determination that Mr. President (Bush) has. There will be a chance for
the country and for Iraq
to succeed," he said. |
