Dasmunsi steps up efforts to resolve Singur issue Thursday, December 14, 2006 12:26 [IST]
New Delhi:
Even as the Lok Sabha yesterday (Dec13,2006) made a strong plea to Mamata
Banerjee to call off her fast, Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi
stepped up efforts to resolve the Singur issue including stoppage of entire
work for the plant for a fortnight.
A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Buddadeb Bhattacharya said that the land
for the project would be handed over on schedule, Dasmunsi also appealed to him
to withdraw Section 144 at the site and create an atmosphere in order to engage
everyone for talks.
The issue of the ten-day old hunger strike by Banerjee also figured in the Lok
Sabha with Speaker Somnath Chatterjee appealing to her to call off her fast and
telling her that the entire House was concerned about her health and well
being.
Talking to reporters, Dasmunsi said he told the Chief Minister that it would
not be good if any political leader went on fast. But the Chief Minister
expressed his inability to roll back the project after the land has been
alloted.
He said the Chief Minister told him that he was ready for talks with the
Trinamool Congress leader on every issue including Singur but she was not
accepting.
Dasmunsi said he had also conveyed to Congress President about his talks with
the Chief Minister.
Attacking the West Bengal government, he said
as a Congress MP from the state, I can say that whatever had been done in
Singur was wrong.
