PM arrives in Japan on four-day official visit Thursday, December 14, 2006 12:47 [IST]
Tokyo: Reflecting the 'increasing eastern orientation' of India's foreign
policy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived here tonight on a four-day
official visit intended to enhance strategic ties with Japan which may give up
its reservations about Indo-US civil nuclear deal.
Defence and security cooperation, short of any military alliance, will also be
high on agenda of talks that Singh will have with Japanese Prime Minister
Shinzo Abe here on Friday.
Singh is expected to seek Japan's
support to India's
aspirations for civil nuclear energy, particularly against the backdrop of
recent passage of law in Washington
on Indo-US civil nuclear deal.
