Tuesday, December 19, 2006 02:32 [IST]

Mumbai, Film Actor Sanjay Dutt, held guilty for possessing arms in the 1993 bomb blast case, today appeared before TADA court which would hear his plea seeking time to surrender.

Sanjay was found guilty under Arms Act on November 28 for possessing a nine mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle in the 1993 bomb blast case. However, he was granted time to surrender till today.

He moved an application yesterday, seeking more time till the case concludes or the final verdict is delivered or until such time the Court may permit.

The actor has pleaded that he needed to make arrangements for her daughter Trishala's education in USA. She is coming to India on December 23 and he needed to spend time with her.

Sanjay also urged that his father Sunil Dutt died without making a will and he needed to manage family properties for which he sought time to surrender.

The actor also said he had incomplete film projects in hand and desired to finish his assignments so that the producers did not suffer losses. He pleaded for time to complete his assignments.

Sanjay also pleaded that he would invoke provision of section 4 of probation of offenders act at the time of making submissions on quantum of sentence. Under this provision he can be released on bond on assurance of good conduct for a period not less than three years.

If he was taken into custody at this stage then he would not be able to seek relief under this Act, Sanjay pleaded.
