Gowda suspends Surendra Mohan, revokes action Tuesday, December 26, 2006 01:13 [IST]

New Delhi:
In the continuing war between rival factions, the JD(S) today suspended senior
leader Surendra Mohan while revoking the supsension of Chief Minister H D
Kumaraswamy and 39 MLAs for forming a coalition government in Karnataka with
BJP.
Today's decision deepening the crisis in the party was taken at a four-hour
long meeting of the National Executive of JD(S) held at the residence of former
Prime Minister and party chief H D Deva Gowda here.
The action against Mohan comes in the wake of the rebel faction owing loyalty
to Veerendrakumar electing him as president after removing Gowda from the top
organisational post. Veerendrakumar and prominent rebel leader P G R Scindia
were suspended from the party last week.
The Executive, however, did not take action against other leaders who attended
the rebel meeting in Thiruvananthapuram last Friday. Today's meeting referred
the matter to the party disciplinary panel.
The decision to revoke the suspension of Kumaraswamy and 39 MLAs were taken
after the disciplinary panel accepted the legislators explanation detailing the"compelling" reasons which prompted them to take such an action,
Gowda told reporters here.
"Kumaraswamy took the decision to align with BJP to save the party from
the 'evil designs of the Congress' along with whom they were sharing power in
the state," he said. |
