New Delhi: Delhi
Cabinet yesterday (Dec 27, 2006) decided to convene a special Assembly session
in mid-January to discuss the proposed Master Plan of the city and to amend the
Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
However, the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit did not fix any
date for the proposed session.
Sources said a Cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow to finalise the date.
The session is being planned to discuss the master plan threadbare before it is
notified.
They said the Delhi
government is also planning to amend the DMC Act which would change the number
of wards from two to four in each assembly segment.
Presently, according to the DMC Act, MCD cannot have more than 134 wards.
However, after amendment of the Act,the number of wards will be doubled.
In the last Assembly session, Delhi
government had moved a resolution stating that MPD-2021 would be discussed in
the house before it is implemented.
The government had also written to the DDA in this regard. A DDA official said
the draft MPD 2021 will be presented before the Delhi Government on January 2.
Earlier in the day, Acting Lieutenant Governor A R Kidwai met Delhi politicians including Chief Minister
Shiela Dikshit, with the elected representatives taking exception to the fact
that their suggestions were not incorporated in the Master Plan of Delhi. |
