Buddhadeb not to accept Mamata's 'unjustified demand' Thursday, December 28, 2006 01:11 [IST]

Siliguri: The West Bengal Government is ready to hold a dialogue with Trinamul
Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on the acquisition of farm land for industries
but would not accept any 'unjustified demand' by her, Chief Minister Buddhadeb
Bhattacharjee said yesterday (Dec 28, 2006).
Addressing a public meeting at Baghajatin
Park here, Bhattacharjee
said land for industry was a must. But at the same time, the state would have
to ensure that the people giving land for an adequate price for it and were
duly rehabilitated.
He, however, did not not go into the details of the acquisition of land at
Singur for a Tata Motors' project and said more industries would be set in the
state as they were sure to generate employment.
Earlier, Bhattacharjee laid the foundation stone of a Rs one-crore CPI-M
district office at Darjeeling
the Anil Biswas Bhawan on Hill Cart Road.
Bhattacharjee left for Jalapaiguri in the evening to attend a party meeting
there.
Meanwhile, a huge procession led by intellectuals gathered along the route used
by Bhattacharjee to travel to Jalpaiguri and shouted slogans against his
government's stand on the Singur issue. |
