Washington:
President Bush showered praises on the Indian community when he said that Indian Americans have played a key role
on both sides ( Republican and Democrats)
to help pass the nuclear treaty act, HR 5682.
Legislation in USA. Americans have come to believe
Indians are great friends. Progress made by Indian Americans in this country in a short period of time is
spectacular.
Each praise by President Bush was acknowledged by Indian
Leaders and activists by thundering applauds.
Indian leaders felt
at home at White House and everybody felt it was a great moment in the history
of Indian community in America
and for Indo-US relations in future.
The signing of Henry J. Hyde United States-India peaceful
Atomic Energy Cooperation Act of 2006 (H.R. 5682) at the East Room of White
House by President George W. Bush, in the presence of prominent influential
Indians and Americans puts India on an accelerated path to economic progress and will give a tremendous boost to
trade, commerce, manufacturing, services, and joint exercises in military, navy
and air force.
India
has a great history of a peaceful and a powerful democracy.
India has always explored nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and
never shared it with countries that promote terrorism.
"Since 1992 India’s economy has doubled but now
with a stable source of energy wide moves forward at a much faster pace. In
addition, currently 70% of India energy is produced by coal which will be
pollution free in future and improve health and quality of life and
longevity" President Bush said.
According to Dr. Parveen Chopra, Founder & President of
the Asian American Coalition USA Inc. representing conglomeration of twelve
Asian countries in USA that
hosted reception to India
and Pakistan
delegation
"All great
countries in the world had to secure a continuous source in the world had to secure a continuous source of energy before they could become a
major power like England and
America,"
he said.
"Peaceful use of
nuclear technology to generate energy will do the same for India what it did for France where almost 80% of domestic
consumption of electricity is generated through nuclear plants," he said.
"It is clean, dependable, cost efficient and it will
help Indian economy to generate jobs to grow economy rapidly. India is now on
the road to become a super economy and a major power in the world in the near
future," he said.
India’s Ambassador His Excellency Rajinder Singh
Jassal who gave a reception to Indian activists after the ceremony thanked
Indian Americans for working with their elected leaders making trips to Washington D.C.,
taking time off their families and spending considerable amount of resources in
convincing American leaders in their towns, that this treaty will work to the
advantage of both countries.
By signing this treaty America
has thrown thirty years of baggage and treated India as a responsible nation and
an emerging power. Ambassador Sen is in India where the action will be now
to approve this treaty through appropriate legislation. |
