Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed's Awami League-led 'mega alliance' yesterday  (Dec 29, 2006)called a two-day nationwide seize early next month to reinforce demands for publishing voters' roll and resignation of President Iajuddin Ahmad as head of the interim government.

"We are calling for a countrywide seize on January 7-8," Sheikh Hasina told a crowded press conference also joined by crucial alliance parterners, former military ruler H M Ershad and ex-President Badruddoza Chowdhury.

The alliance also demanded 'depoliticisation' of police and suspension of activities of the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion, acusing them of 'excesses' against their activists.
