ADB finances road connectivity projects in Kashmir Monday, January 01, 2007 01:07 [IST]
Jammu: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is funding road
connectivity projects in Jammu and Kashmir to boost the state's infrastructure
under which five major roads in the Kashmir Valley are being taken up for
construction and repairs.
The state's Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) has taken
up the five road projects.
"These projects are aimed at improving connectivity and
augmenting the present transport sector," said Vijay Bakaya, chief
executive officer, ERA.
The ADB funding is part of the bank aid for reconstruction
of infrastructure damaged during the past 17 years of turmoil in the state and
construction of new infrastructure.
"Under these projects five main roads will be covered
including Jehangir Chowk, Karan Nagar, SKIMS Road, General Bus Stand Batmaloo, Tengpora Road, Thajiwara-khundru Shangus Road,
Brakpora-Kanganhall Magreypora
Road and Putkhasha-Pachar
Road," he said.
The project involves an estimated cost of Rs.292 million.
"The road projects will be completed in the shortest
possible time. They will help facilitate road communication and boost local
trade and commerce," Bakaya said in a release Monday.
The projects have been approved and cleared by experts after
proper environmental assessment and adequate social examination.
