CCS approves Pranab Mukherjee's Pakistan agenda Friday, January 05, 2007 12:19 [IST]
New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS)
yesterday (Jan 4, 2007) approved the agenda of talks that External Affairs
Minister Pranab Mukherjee will have with the Pakistani leadership next week
amid his hopes of a successful visit to Islamabad.
The CCS discussed in detail Mukherjee's two-day visit to Islamabad from January 13 during which he
will hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri to
review the Composite Dialogue.
"I obtained the brief from the Cabinet Committee. I apprised them (the
meeting) and they approved the brief," the External Affairs Minister told
reporters after the CCS meeting.
He is travelling to Islamabad primarily to
extend invitation to President Pervez Musharraf for the 14th SAARC Summit to be
held here in April but the opportunity will be used to hold talks on bilateral
issues like terrorism, Jammu and
Kashmir, Siachen, Sir Creek, trade and
confidence-building measures.
Asked about his expectations from the trip, Mukherjee said, "I hope the
visit will be good."
