'India should consider Pak proposal on Kashmir' Monday, January 08, 2007 06:16 [IST]
Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief
Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today (Jan 8,2007) urged the Centre not to reject
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's proposals on Kashmir.
"We should consider the proposals seriously and
formulate our response after discussing all the issues, including
self-governance," he told sources..
"I hope External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will
convey something in this regard to Islamabad during
his forthcoming visit to Pakistan,"
the chief minister said.
Azad said he had asked Mukherjee to take up issues like
opening cross-border routes and resuming trade via Srinagar-Muzzafffarabad
highway.
"We can have joint management in trade, tourism, power
and water", he said.
The BJP has, however, opposed the suggestion to discuss
Pakistani proposals, saying it would amount to surrendering before Islamabad.
Lashing out at the BJP, Azad said," It was most
unbecoming of the opposition, which during its rule had started peace process
with Pakistan." |
