Sonia appeals for peace in Assam through talks Monday, January 08, 2007 11:39 [IST]
New Delhi: Appealing to the
people of Assam,
reeling under the ULFA killings, to maintain peace and tranquility, Congress
President Sonia Gandhi yesterday (Jan 7, 2007) said solutions to all problems
could be found through dialogue.
In a statement here, Gandhi said she had instructed the state government to
provide security to the people and adequate compensation to families of the
victims.
Strongly condemning the killing of innocent, unarmed, poor people, she said
"such violence will not lead to any solution, rather it will retard the
economic progress of the state".
Emphasising that violence has no place in a democratic country like India, she
said, "Solution to all problems can be found through dialogue".
"I also appeal to the people of Assam to maintain peace and
tranquility in this hour of difficulty," the UPA chairperson said. |
