Navjot Singh Sidhu, convicted in a case of culpable homicide, today (Jan 11, 2007) surrendered before a local
court which sent him to judicial custody in Patiala.
Siddhu, a former BJP MP who has challenged his conviction in the Supreme Court,
surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate here this afternoon. The case
will come before the apex court tomorrow.
Sidhu and his friend Rupinder Singh Sandhu were directed to be taken to the
Central Jail in Patiala
by CJM Y S Rathore.
The duo earlier appeared before a Division Bench of the High Court to surrender
in line with a Supreme Court order. The High Court directed them surrender
before the CJM.
The two were convicted in a case of road rage which led to the death of one
Gurnam Singh in Patiala
in 1988.
