Congress conspiring to defer polls: Mulayam Singh Friday, January 12, 2007 11:06 [IST]
Lucknow:
Accusing Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar of playing a partisan role, Chief
Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday (Jan 11,2007) charged the Congress with
conspiring to defer assembly polls in the state by imposing President's rule
for a period of one year with Governor's help.
"I have reliably learnt that the Congress is conspiring to put off
assembly polls in the state by imposing President's rule through its
Governor," he said launching a blistering attack on the UPA Government at
the Centre.
The Governor was taking "unconstitutional decisions", Yadav alleged
at the Kurmi Swabhiman rally here.
He had also defied the Cabinet's decision to convene the state assembly on
January 15, the Chief Minister said adding this was a glaring example of
Governor's partisan role.
"We have sought legal advise from constitutional experts and all of them
have opined that the Governor is bound to accept recommendations of the
Cabinet," Yadav said.
He asked the Congress not to play politics in the state with the help of the
Governor, adding no party could win assembly polls with Gubernatorial support.
Claiming the Congress and the BJP had joined hands to topple his government,
Yadav said senior BJP leader L K Advani during his party's national executive
in the state capital had met the Governor demanding President's rule in UP.
